"Sealed Micro Switch Alternatives to Honeywell in 2026: Second Sources for V15W, ZW, ZD and HD Positions"

2026-10-23

When a purchasing plan calls for a second approved supplier for a Honeywell MICRO SWITCH sealed to IP67, several manufacturers offer sealed micro switches as alternatives. An alternative is specified against the installed Honeywell version, and the Honeywell datasheet rates the version with wire leads IP67 and the version of the same switch with exposed terminals IP00: a wired installation calls for a wired alternative sealed to IP67 at the lead exit, and a terminal installation calls for a terminal alternative at the IP rating the position requires. A sealed alternative has to share the original version's lead-out construction, current and voltage rating, and actuator and mounting holes. Taking the installed Honeywell version, wired or terminal, as the starting point, the article is meant to leave a buyer with sealed alternatives that fit that version.

The installed Honeywell version: wire leads at IP67 or exposed terminals at IP00

The HD datasheet gives "IP67 per IEC 60529 (wired)" against IP00 for terminal versions, and the other three sealed series tie the rating to the lead-out in the same way. The V15W datasheet reads "Sealing IP67 (leaded versions) IP00 (quick-connect versions due to exposed terminal)", and the ZW and ZD datasheets read "IP67 (prewired), IP00 for exposed terminals". Wire length and operating temperature also change with the version.

SeriesWired versionTerminal versionStandard wire lengthOperating temperature by version
V15W (miniature)IP67IP00300 mm-40 °C to 85 °C
ZW (subminiature)IP67IP00500 mm-20 °C to 70 °C pre-wired; -40 °C to 120 °C terminal
ZD (subminiature)IP67IP00500 mm-40 °C to 85 °C
HD (subminiature)IP67IP00150 mm-20 °C to 80 °C wired; -40 °C to 125 °C terminal

Because IP rating, wire length and temperature range all follow the lead-out, the lead-out on the installed part number is where an alternative's specification starts. A wired part is matched by a version sealed to IP67 with its leads attached, and a terminal part is matched on the IP rating the supplier gives its terminal side. How far a supplier's own IP67 statement reaches into the terminals is covered in whether IP67 covers the lead exit.

Alternatives for a wired Honeywell position

A wired Honeywell position is matched by a version whose IP67 is written for the switch with its leads attached.

ZINGEAR

The parameter tables of ZINGEAR G5W11-WZ200-W2 and ZINGEAR G303-130S00A28 list Protection Class IP67. ZINGEAR G5W11-WZ200-W2 is rated 5 A at 125/250 VAC for a V15W position up to 5 A, and ZINGEAR G303-130S00A28 3 A at 12 VDC for a ZD or HD position, so the IP rating on the quote is checked against its own model page.

ITW EBA

ITW EBA lists the SWA series as "Sub-Miniature IP67 Rated Waterproof Micro Switches" and names "wire leads with connector" among its customized features, so the request names the wired version and its lead length.

KANGERLE (KEL)

KANGERLE (KEL) lists its KW2 sealed basic switch with molded lead wires exiting downwards, left or right, and states that the switch reaches IP67 "after wiring", which makes the lead-wire version the one to quote.

Omron

Omron's D2JW datasheet rates "Molded lead wire models IEC IP67", and the D2VW datasheet lists molded leads of 300 mm or 1,000 mm, so the molded lead wire models are the Omron versions for a wired position.

TONELUCK

TONELUCK writes that "the MQS-42 and MQS-43 series are sealed structures with IP67 waterproof functions", with corded versions listed at 2A/12VDC and 2A/24VDC.

Unionwell

Unionwell's G5W11 product page rates the version "With Wire IEC IP67" and gives a UL/cUL rating of 5A 125/250VAC T85.

ZF (Cherry)

ZF lists the DCJK with "Protection class: IP67 (switching system)" and wire versions rated -40 to +105 °C.

Alternatives for a terminal Honeywell position

A terminal Honeywell position is rated IP00 at the terminals, so a terminal alternative is matched on the IP rating its own page gives the terminal side.

Omron

Omron's D2VW and D2SW datasheets state "IP67 (Excluding the terminals on terminal models)", the same split the original writes as IP00 at the exposed terminals.

TONELUCK

TONELUCK's MQS-9C page lists "Actuation Side IP Protection IP67" and "Terminal Side IP Protection IP00" at 100mA 30VDC, with PCB, solder and interlock terminal options.

Unionwell

Unionwell rates the terminal version of the G5W11 "With Terminal IEC IP67(Terminal not included)" on the same page as the wired version.

What an alternative shares with the original version

Once the IP rating matches, you check the candidate against the original datasheet on lead-out construction, current and voltage rating, and actuator and mounting holes.

Lead-out construction

A wired alternative has to match the lead exit, the wire length and the approval use temperature of the installed wired version. Every standard length in the first table comes with other lengths on request, so you quote the alternative at the length your harness already uses. Approval changes with the lead-out too. The V15W is approved to 55 °C max on wired versions and 85 °C max on terminal versions, and the ZD datasheet says "Switches with AVSS wire do not have UL approvals". On a terminal part, you match the terminal form, and the V15W alone comes with three types of terminations.

Current and voltage rating

The alternative needs the original rating at the same voltage, under the approval your position was qualified to. The V15W runs from 0.1 A to 10 A at 125/250 Vac, the ZW goes up to 6 A at 125/250 Vac, and the ZD and HD switch 3 A at 12 Vdc or 125 Vac. On the V15W, the 0.1 A gold-contact version and the power version are separate parts, so you match the contact material you've got installed as well.

Actuator and mounting holes

The actuator code and the hole spacing on the dimension drawing are the numbers the alternative has to hit. The V15W comes with pin plungers and stainless steel levers, and the HD drawing shows integrated pillars and mounting holes. You compare actuator type, lever length and hole positions as figures, and where a datasheet doesn't give them, you compare them on the drawing.

Dimensions and operating characteristics compared on a drawing before samples

Before you order a sample, put the alternative's 3D drawing next to the original datasheet and compare the outline, the hole positions and the operating characteristics, which the datasheet lists as operating force (OF), release force (RF), pretravel (PT), overtravel (OT) and differential travel (DT). Every supplier on the shortlist gets the same request.

ItemOriginal value by lead-out versionRequest to the alternative supplier
Outline and lead exitDimension drawing of the wired or terminal version3D drawing of the matching version
Mounting holesHole positions on the dimension drawingHole positions on the 3D drawing
ActuatorActuator code in the part numberActuator type and lever length

Standard wire lengthWired: 300 mm (V15W), 500 mm (ZW, ZD), 150 mm (HD)Wire length and wire type on the quote
Approval use temperatureV15W: 55 °C max wired, 85 °C max terminalApproval file and use temperature of the matching version

Once the drawing agrees with the original datasheet on every row, the sample is worth testing in your application.

Where a ZINGEAR version is on the shortlist for a wired or terminal Honeywell position, a ZINGEAR lead-out review can check its lead exit and mounting interface against the installed part number, rating and actuator.

FAQ About Sealed Micro Switch Alternatives to Honeywell

Is a MICRO SWITCH a limit switch?

Honeywell lists Basic Switches and Limit Switches as two separate product categories under the MICRO SWITCH brand. The V15W, ZW, ZD and HD sit with the basic switches.

Is the Honeywell V15 the same sealed switch as the V15W?

The V15 and the V15W are different series. Honeywell's V Basics comparison lists the V15 as "unsealed, highly configurable" and the V15W as "sealed, high current capacity", with "IP67, IP00" in the V15W sealing column, so a sealed alternative is matched to a V15W part number.

Does an alternative need the same UL file as the Honeywell part?

The alternative carries its own UL listing, so the file number differs from the Honeywell File 12252 on the V15W datasheet. What you compare is the rating and the use temperature listed for the matching version under that file.

How can I tell whether a supplier has run a position like mine before?

Ask which positions the sealed series already serves and for the approval files of the exact version on the quote. The positions and the approval files together show whether the supplier's experience covers the lead-out and rating of your Honeywell part.
